Are you an experienced Market Research professional looking for an exciting new challenge within a senior role in FMCG market research?

We are looking for an innovative and enthusiastic senior researcher to join our dedicated team as a Research Director.

This role, reporting into our Director, Head of London Business, and will be based in our central London (Blackfriars) office.

This role will be varied but some key elements include:

Managing Client Accounts:

o You will have ultimate responsibility for the quality of service provided and business developed on a number of MMR’s key FMCG client accounts

o You will be responsible for the provision of internal consultancy and sign off (as appropriate) on research design, proposal and debrief content.

o You will be the senior presence (gravitas) at key client interface situations (important client presentations, debriefs, account roster reviews etc.) and add value to the client experience in both New Product Development and research by providing advice, consultancy and a high level of interpretation and direction, where appropriate.

o You will be responsible for identification of business risk and development opportunities within accounts, and for the implementation of appropriate solutions.

o You’ll be taking the lead with the promotion of all MMR proprietary methodologies to potential customers when appropriate.

o You will also be responsible for the delivery of an agreed value of business in line with overhead recovery and net profitability targets.

New Client Development:

o The generation of New Business through warm leads generated by MMR and from other personal contacts within the assigned client accounts

o The generation of warm leads through promoting awareness of MMR among potential clients and contacts.

  • The management, leadership and development of Associate Directors and other Senior Research staff, as appropriate.
  • Help to train, mentor and develop more junior staff, with particular emphasis on developing Senior Research executives to Associate Director Level.
  • Dependent on the individual there will also be opportunities to:

  • Lead/join a team to move forward an MMR business critical initiative
  • Assist with the development and enhancement of new methodologies when appropriate
  • Help to maintain a positive, friendly and constructive working environment.
  • Help with the identification and implementation of organizational efficiency improvements including ways of reducing direct costs.
  • You’ll be expected to support, and take the lead if necessary, in the above areas, driving new thinking and ensuring that MMR’s deliverables are of the highest possible quality – we’re a premium research business and we’re committed to delivering above client expectations!

    As well as offering a wide range of both traditional and more creative techniques, MMR has developed unique approaches that helps clients create and shape detailed product briefs right at the start of the innovation process.

    As many of our projects are multinational, this role also provides a great opportunity to travel internationally and work across different cultures all over the world.


    As a person you will:

  • Be a strong manager, self-management, team management and project management are all key to this role
  • Have exceptional communication skills, including the ability to tailor content and style of communications in the most demanding and ambiguous situations; to be able to persuade without dominating at the highest levels. You will also be able to diffuse potentially argumentative situations, anticipate potential problems/pitfalls and be a great negotiator.
  • Be client focused - coordinating client relationships to avoid overlap and to ensure continuity of client service. You will work with senior members of client teams to establish requirements and cohesive working relationships.
  • Be both innovative and Creative - Constantly experimenting with new ideas and ways of meeting client needs on projects, account management and in your business development approach.
  • You will have a strong technical skill set including:

  • Project Design – Scoping projects and writing proposals for clients with minimum input from senior management where precedents do not exist.
  • Project Management – Identifying best practice within the client account team on project management and ensuring this is communicated and where possible adopted by others. You will look for opportunities to improve project management and adapt policy and procedures accordingly for the clients. You will allocate project management according to client need, taking into account the strengths/weaknesses and development needs of your team members
  • Analysis and Interpretation – Encouraging new thinking and challenging the team’s findings to ensure they are focused on the right issues.
  • Substantial experience within research (in a market research environment) both face to face and online
  • A passion for and experience in FMCG research
  • Whilst not a pre-requisite the following would be advantageous:

  • Recent agency experience
  • An ability to travel internationally
